There are many things to learn about when it comes to nutrition. But the basic concept is, “What goes in, must come out.” Your body should be like a well-oiled machine. It should take what it needs from what you feed it and get rid of the waste by urination and bowel movements.

If you notice that you have a problem with elimination, you should take it seriously and get that checked to find out the underlying reason. Many people have this problem. Don’t be shy about it because it can be very serious to your health. The problem can stem from a sluggish digestive system, bacterial infection, wrong food combinations, to list just a few.

The first step is finding out if there even is a problem. First, you should see how many bowel movements you have daily. If you have at least one per day, it’s not a problem. However, it is better to have two to three bowel movements a day if you eat more often. But, if you find you are having one per week or two per month, then you have a serious problem and should not delay in remedying it. (Also, on the flipside, if you are having too many bowel movements, this also indicates a matter of concern, which can and should be addressed and remedied as well.)

Some people might say they don’t find the time to go to the bathroom. The reason could be they are out all day and would prefer to have their bowel movements at home rather than a public bathroom. But let me tell you, you will keep your colon quite happy if you go one to three times a day. If you are looking for a trick, it would be to eat a lot of raw fruits and vegetables. Try steamed beets and use digestive enzymes with your meals. Listen to your body as you try different methods. For me, I find that a tablespoon of ground flaxseed does the job to keep me regular.

I have just lightly touched on the subject, but if you have a problem, you should consult a healthcare practitioner right away who understands and looks deep into the situation, the root of the problem. This problem is not good for your health. Take care of it today and look forward to a healthier tomorrow.
