I was asked the other day a very interesting question – “What do I feel is the biggest contributor to weight gain?” Well, that is not an easy answer primarily because we are all different and handle different factors that can contribute to gaining weight. Inflammation due to sickness or injury, poor sleep, stress, poor diet, timing of ingesting, toxins, etc., are all contributing factors to weight gain from one degree or another.
But when I really think about it, we live in a period of time where food is so readily available, that the biggest contributing factor I feel is grazing or snacking on food … or simply ingesting food many times per day. Yes, different metabolisms work in different ways, and there are individuals who have been advised to eat several times throughout the day because of certain conditions. But, for most, this is not necessary and without a doubt will lead to weight gain over time.
When you learn and understand insulin response and the purpose of this release, you will understand why I feel this is a major, if not the major, contributing factor to weight gain.
